About

At the heart of Wouter le Duc’s artistic practice lies a true fascination with people and storytelling. Le Duc is a Dutch photographer interested in the psyche of unfamiliar characters and in the ethos of their respective communities and environments.

His search for isolated, utopic sites serves as a starting point for investigations into their individual social climates, the narratives caught between fiction and non-fiction. Photographs of their inhabitants reveal inner portraits and quasi laments of everyday people who approach the task of survival in different ways.

Uncanny mysteries surrounding common domestic spaces gain new complexity under le Duc’s ability to frame and stage surreal encounters that bridge fact and fantasy. It is up to viewers to distill meaning from available signifiers and nuanced stares, as conscious and subconscious perception filters constructed representation.
